You are stunning. I haven't written in three days and have been searching for that trigger that reminds me what I'm supposed to do in the world. This is it. You are beautiful.

Cecilia,
I ALWAYS read your blog, though I seldom comment, as you know. This made me rush to comment. It's breathtakingly beautiful. I'm looking forward to reading The Sweetness of Salt. You probably have a blog tour all lined up but if not, I would be happy to review your book and to do an interview. Thanks.

"intelligent enough and good enough to write about the human condition."
For me that is what you did in Patron Saint of Butterflies. I needed that. The book showed up at a book fair I was working and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I was really expecting it to be similar to the stories about kids growing up in a living history of the 1840s (or whenever) and then breaking free and discovering that the modern world exists. But that wasn't it. It spoke deeper than a surface plot of awe and wonder and freedom. You seem to really understand how someone could be caught up into being a "saint-wannabe" and how others avoid it. You wrote about how people change over the years and how experiences impact them. You touch on how each person's reaction affects those around them. This is the human condition as I know it.

Wow. What an inspiring post. There are few things in life that have touched me the way this has. I somehow stumbled onto it through a Google search on Elizabeth Strout, but, frankly, this is exactly what I needed. Thanks.

writing is life. =) Think of all the different possibilities, how different our lives could be, if we went left instead of right. But right now, right seems like a pretty good direction. The world is one big possibility. I'm glad you are finding a path.

Hi Cecilia,
I've got some more exciting news for you! As chairman of the Connecticut Nutmeg Award 2012 Teen Selection Committee, I'm pleased to tell you that "The Patron Saint of Butterflies" has made it through two rounds of voting and is a candidate for our final list. However, I need to contact you individually to get some contact information for your editor at Bloomsbury USA. It would be great if you could get back to me as soon as possible!
